GASTALDIA

il vino per passione ~ passion for making wine

Why Gastaldia Wines?

I discovered the wines of Gastaldia through an aquaintance and due to a fortunate coincidence of interests and events. Typically, the most cherished wines in one's life are found indirectly.

I learned about the winery in Breganze (in Veneto), Italy and met with the company's public relations contact for Canada, Marcella Michieli, long before I tasted the wines. The description of the place itself - both the vineyards and the winery facility - and the passion and knowledge of Ms. Michieli promised very good things.

When I finally tasted the wines, I was utterly thrilled by what I found. The tricky part was determining which wines I would introduce first to the Alberta market. In the end, I simply chose the three wines that tugged on my heart strings, the wines I found to be most surprising and delightful.

About Gastaldia

The vines of Gastladia cover 45 hectares of land, mainly on the hills, with the estate buildings resting on the plains. The volcanic soils are rich in minerals and low in nitrogen, producing small yields of excellent quality and distinctive character. Prodigious sunlight and ventilation and an extensive thermal jump between night and day are also important factors contributing to quality wine growing. Local, indigenous yeasts are preferred for fermentation to further promote the unique fruit expressions of the grapes grown here.
